My children at bedtime are kind of like those plates that entertainers spin on poles. The difference is they want to keep spinning madly, while I want them to crash* to the ground.
*by crash, I mean GO TO SLEEP.
Earnest Parenting: help for parents whose children are still awake.
Even in their sleep, they’re spinning. Somehow they find their way to our bed and decide the spinning should never stop. Feet, arms, elbows…we never know which limb is going to greet us in the morning! Awwh, the days of toddlers.
Toddlers, lol. Captain Earthquake will be 5 in a few weeks, and he just recently stopped visiting me in the night. Well, after I’ve gone to bed. He still usually gets up once to check on me, but it’s when I’m still awake and he’s been going back down without complaint. Which is thrilling. I like the cooperation thing.
Twins can squabble and pester one another all day, but put them into bed and shut off the lights and they’ll suddenly discover thousands of things to discuss. I love love love what good buddies they are, and it’s a total laugh riot to sneak up and listen to the little boy chatter and giggles. But 2 hours after we’ve told them to go to sleep….I’m ready for them to shush. 🙂 The little guys fall asleep pretty fast still, but the older ones were up chattering again tonight well after 10:00, and we put them in bed shortly after 8. Crazy kids.
