Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

Have you seen the news lately? Chock full ‘o cheeriness, isn’t it? How about stories about parenting? Find many happy ones? No??

Well, I’m not surprised. Between the advice columns, the results of studies, and the stories of bad parents it’s enough to make a reader downright depressed. I don’t like being depressed. Do you?

There are some fantastically wonderful parents out there, Internets. I got to thinking, why not celebrate some of them?

The parents I have in mind are heroes. It doesn’t matter whether they’re in a unique circumstance or doing the ordinary thing day to day. What matters is they’re getting something right with their kids. Maybe a mom is advocating for the services her child needs in school. Or a dad is coaching a sports team. Then there’s the mom getting up early to pack healthy lunches for the kids at school. Or the parents who save up for a year just to drive the family on a vacation together.

See? These heroes are all around us, often going about their lives without ever getting recognized or thanked for their efforts. They do what they do because they love their children. They are heroes In parenting.

The news being what it is (depressing) I got to thinking that it’d be neat to find some of those heroes and highlight them here on the blog. I don’t know about you, but I could use encouragement-and a good story any day of the week.

So. That’s what we’re going to do. I’ve got some ideas bouncing around my head as to how it will all work. Come on back tomorrow and I’ll lay them out for you. Suggestions are most welcome as well. 🙂
