Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

Why hello, Internets! Have you ever gotten those spammy emails where someone goes on and on about how much money they saved on groceries? No worries, this isn’t a post like that. However, it turns out that there really are grocery savings programs out there that can cut your bill down considerably.

Basically, the best way to save money is to use a coupon on an item when the store has it on sale. The hard part is matching up the sales to the coupons. There are sites that will do that for you.

One such site is the Grocery Game. This site covers stores in the US and Canada, and membership is $10 every 8 weeks to give you the coupon info for one store. Additional stores are $5 more each 8 weeks. You can do a 4 week trial for $1 to check it out. What you get is a listing of that store’s sales for the week along with what coupons you can use to increase your savings.

I use a similar program called Savings Angel. It started out as a Michigan company, but went national just yesterday. For $20 a month, you get access to a database of over a dozen stores including WalGreens, Meijer, Rite Aid, Family Fare, Hardings, Plumbs, Target, Shop’n’Save, CVS, Kroger, Albertsons, and Publix. (There are more, I just didn’t list them all.) Another two advantages to Savings Angel: if you get people to sign up and use your member number as a referral, you get $5 of their membership fee monthly. If 4 people sign up under you, then your membership is free. Second, you can make your shopping list and print it right off the site. Oh, and they have a support forum and direct links to online coupon programs.

If you don’t want to use a paid program, then try CouponMom. This site works a lot like the paid sites, it’s just not as pretty as they are. I’ve used it successfully but it does take me longer to track down the deals I want.
CouponTom is a savings site that works a little differently. You enter in the store and the item, and the site tells you where to find the coupon if one is available.

AllYou Magazine is also a fantastic resource. Each issue is packed with coupons. The most recent issue had $91 worth of coupons inside. You can purchase the magazine off the shelf at Wal-Mart, or you can subscribe directly at AllYou.com, where they even have a free trial option. If you sign up at their site you can get more online coupons and suggestions. This is where I learned about the CouponTom site.

I have no affiliation-financial or otherwise-with the other resources listed on this page; I’m just sharing resources I’ve learned about in my quest to save dollars:)
