First aid is critically important, especially in schools where it is crucial to be able to react quickly to accidents and emergencies in order to limit the effect of injuries on children. Let’s face it, all children are prone to accidents and so a strong knowledge of how to deal with these situations effectively is essential.

The need to learn and be trained in first aid in schools is vital. First, most parents rely on teachers and other school staff to take good care of their children once they put them into school. While the children are there, parents should feel at ease knowing that the teachers are capable and prepared to do everything in their power to make sure that the students are safe and sound whilst in their care.

It is the responsibility of the school and its staff to foster a healthy and secured learning environment for their young students. Part of this responsibility is ensuring teachers and other school staff, have enough knowledge about first aid training to cope with any situation. Children, especially the really young ones, can be very unpredictable. By nature, children love to play and fool around. Unfortunately, this makes kids more prone to injuries and accidents. Therefore, having a qualified first-aider is an important requirement for every school.

In extreme cases, it’s been known for students to suffer a fracture or a sprain whilst playing games. Hence, it is important that the first-aider knows how to use an Aquacel dressing to protect wounds and injuries. An Aquacel dressing conforms easily to various wound shapes, making it an important part of any school’s first aid kit. Furthermore, some children might have difficulty breathing due to allergies or asthma attacks, which is why having someone who knows how to properly administer CPR is equally essential.

In almost every country around the world, health and safety commissions have recommended that schools, whether they are public or private academic institutions, should have proper and sufficient first-aid personnel and equipment. This mandate ensures that each school has adequate first aid facilities. Furthermore, it also makes sure that a school has one or more first-aid trained staff, including officers who are highly qualified in first aid administration and in assisting injured individuals.

Aside from ensuring that schools have adequate supplies and a qualified first-aid trained staff, health and safety commissions in different countries also make sure that each school conducts risk assessments annually to guarantee that the equipment and staff for first aid are sufficient to match the needs of its student population. For instance, if there are more than a hundred students in a particular school, it is often required to have two or more personnel who are highly qualified in performing first aid treatment to children.

Being trained in first aid administration certifies that a school can provide their students a healthy and safe environment for learning and education, just as it should be.
