Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

In the words of Oscar Wilde, “A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament.”

In other words, there’s really no excuse for a bland room.

You have so many options, and these extend beyond simply tacking up a few posters or hanging some pictures. Also, the adhesive and nails won’t exactly leave your wall looking its best.

To properly add colour and vibrancy to your teen’s room, the most efficient way to go is with interior graphics. This means images and patterns directly onto the wall that complement the entire scheme of the room. The great thing about these is that they make the room completely individual, especially if they are personalised to the occupant, turning the place into a true, unique sanctum sanctorum.

Here are just a few ways you can really plaster your teen’s room with a bit of individual flair:

Wall Graphics

These are images, symbols and patterns applied directly onto the wall, and they are of a more permanent nature than simple posters or paintings. These can take absolutely any shape, from favorite quotes, animals, designs, custom pictures or even photos.

It’s up to you to be as creative as you like, though the minimalist approach can’t be overlooked, as sometimes all it takes is a well-placed quote or set of images to give a room a truly unique feel.

These graphics can (and should) match the existing pattern on the walls, and won’t do any damage to the room. However, feel free to add artwork that will mesh well with the design. Again, wall graphics are a versatile choice that should add style and flair, without fundamentally altering the design.

Creative Themes

The altering and re-imagining is best left to creative themes, which aim for a true transformation from bland to unique. Similar to wall graphics, creative theming more refers to the process of giving a certain feel to the whole room.

This can include wallpaper patterns that match the colored lighting, or curtains that carry on the patterns of the walls. This is really where the room’s occupant can allow their personality and tastes to shine through, as they themselves should be reflected in the design.

If they have a preference for a certain type of animal, or pattern, this can be reflected across every wall. If your teen has a passion for sports, the graphics can include the members or great moments of their favorite team. If they have a keen interest in comics, music, nature, mathematics, mechanics or whatever else, their room can change to reflect the thing they love the most.

Photo Prints

As previously mentioned, photos can quite easily be printed directly onto a wall, providing a stylish alternative to hammering in nails.

They aren’t limited by framing and are possibly the most personalised choice in terms of making a room a truly personalized room. For the especially creative, a collage is the way to go. This will preserve memories in an enduring and artistic fashion, and are a great way to make a teen feel at home, even after they leave.

The photos can, of course, be literally anything, from a collage of friends and memories to great sporting moments. They can take up as much or as little space on the wall; for some, a select few special photos may suffice, while the more extreme may wish to have an entire wall of photography. It’s all up to personal preference.

The Finished Masterpiece

Each and every one of these projects has limitless potential. Decorate a corner with a select few photos, or completely redesign the entire room with team colors, right down to the curtains and a full-blown light wall. The choice, as they say, is yours, and design companies will be happy to give you all the information you need on what will work best for your home.

Either way, you’ll be transforming a bland living space into a true teenage retreat.
