Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

Editor’s note: I don’t usually just publish someone else’s blog post verbatim, but this opportunity looks pretty great. I like the idea of parents using social media for positive result. What about you?

“I think we all need a pep talk” – Kid President.

A few months ago I was inspired by watching a video on YouTube from Kid President, entitled Kid President Pep Talk.

As the Director of Children of America – an organisation committed to providing daycare and childcare in a safe, educational and stimulating environment – I began to think about what we could do to motivate others.

Ultimately, I kept coming back to one key phrase – best you can be.

We have asked each and every teacher of ours to help us be the best we can be, as an organisation. It means offering the best education, the best supervision and the best facility we possibly can. Together, we can make it happen.

But beyond the four walls of what we do, how could we get this phrase – best you can be – into the public consciousness? How can we make it resonate with you, as a parent?

The answer was simple – to embrace social media like we haven’t before, and encourage moms, dads and children across the nation to share their tips about how they can be the best they can be.

It might be by picking yourself up when you fall over. It might be by cooking dinner together as a family once a week. It might be by allowing your kids to feed the family dog each night, teaching them about the importance of responsibilities at an early age.

It might be as simple as putting together healthy meals for your children or making sure you stop to take the time to hug them – even when you are super busy.

If we had a motto, it would be “keep going, keep going and keep going.” We want families to recognize that it’s OK – it’s human, in fact – to slip up but it’s how you get back up that really matters. Our campaign is about inspiring each other – to us, it’s a ray of positivity in what is in many ways a bleak landscape out there.

We created a video, which you can see here, starring the children from one of our centres. It’s completely addictive – we can’t stop watching it. These kids are completely free of negativity and cynicism. They’ve been brought up to have positive attitudes towards life and that’s exactly what they display.

We want you and your family to join us on social media and share how you’re being the best you can be. We’re offering prizes worth more than $2,000 (including an iPad mini and gift cards) to a lucky Facebook user that ‘likes’ the Children of America page and shares a photo of their child being the best they can be.

Kid President struck a chord with millions of Americans by giving us all a pep talk. Children of America wants that pep talk to turn into something just as tangible – an online resource to motivate and inspire each other.

So what are you waiting for? Help us, and others, work towards being our best!
