I don’t know if you’re aware, Heroes, that I spent some time trying to be a professional organizer several years ago. I got trained and everything! Organizing and structuring are two very important tasks in my life; without those efforts I would have gone screaming out of the house tearing at my hair many years ago. Well, those efforts and God. He helps too.
All that to say that I have learned through difficult struggle the importance of maintaining balance and focus in life. Much of that depends on my choices and how I react to life’s circumstances. I will admit that much of the time, I have gotten it wrong. But I continue to try…continue to grow…continue to learn. I can say that I’m doing a lot better now than I was a few years ago. A lot better.
I was very interested when Michelle Perry Higgins asked me to review her book: Stocks, Bonds, & Soccer Moms – 7 Steps to a Balanced Life. (Among other things, I wondered how I was doing when compared to an outside review.)
At just over 100 pages, this book is an easy read. Michelle has broken it into sections that can easily stand alone. The 7 areas are self-image, relationships, team-building, self-preservation, romance, finances, and passing the torch to daughters. In each area, Michelle shares her own story, then teaches some principals to live by and offers some challenges and steps to follow to achieve balance.
There are great words of wisdom in this little book. Written by a woman who really cares about other women finding peace and wholeness, the steps are easy to understand. Following them is more work, but if the goals are taken on one at a time, a reader could definitely find a place of peace in life. At the very least, following some or all of the suggestions can result in definite improvements.
If you’re stressed to the point of feeling like you’ve completely lost your way, this book may be just the ticket. There is a companion tool that Michelle has also created: The Everything Binder – Lite: Financial, Estate and Personal Affairs Organizer. I haven’t seen it in person, but I do know that having all of your papers in one place can make life easier both for you and for your family in the event of an emergency.
